DC Sake brings Sake afficionados and Sake experts together to celebrate the Cherry Blossom season.

The DC Sake in Washington, DC, is a cultural celebration that highlights the craftsmanship, history, and artistry behind Japan’s traditional rice‑based beverages. The festival is designed as an educational showcase rather than a space that encourages underage consumption. Visitors can expect cultural demonstrations, talks from experts about how sake is made, and exhibits that explore the agricultural and regional traditions behind the drink. The focus is on understanding the heritage and production process rather than promoting drinking itself.

A major feature of the 2026 festival is its spotlight on a diverse range of breweries from across the United States and Washington, DC as well as restaurants that feature Sake. Exhibitors typically include long‑established producers known for traditional brewing methods, as well as newer craft breweries experimenting with modern techniques. The event often highlights regional differences—such as how water quality, rice varieties, and climate shape the final product—giving attendees a deeper appreciation for the cultural and scientific aspects of sake production. By bringing together artisans, educators, and Sake organizations, the festival aims to broaden understanding of sake as a craft rooted in history and regional identity.

THOUSANDS GATHER TO CELEBRATE THE NATIONAL CHERRY BLOSSOMS PARADE!

The 2026 National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade filled Washington, D.C.’s Constitution Avenue with color, music, and pageantry as thousands gathered to celebrate the arrival of spring. Among the most anticipated highlights were the appearances of Miss U.S.A Audrey Eckhert, the Japan Cherry Blossom Queen and the U.S. Cherry Blossom Queen proudly representing Maryland. The entertainment lineup brought extra excitement this year with a performance by the award‑winning R&B vocal group Club Nouveau, whose presence added a vibrant, nostalgic energy to the celebration.

The parade’s roots stretch back to the early 1900s, when writer and diplomat Eliza Ruhamah Scidmore first proposed planting cherry trees along the Potomac River. Her idea gained momentum thanks to botanist Dr. David Fairchild, ultimately leading to Japan’s 1912 gift of more than 3,000 cherry trees to the United States as a symbol of friendship. The ceremonial planting by First Lady Helen Taft and Viscountess Chinda marked the beginning of a tradition that has grown into a nationally cherished festival. Today, the parade continues to honor that legacy, blending history, diplomacy, and community into one of the country’s most beloved springtime events.

The Washington, DC Monument was decorated with colorful Kites to kick off the Cherry Blossom Festival.

The Blossom Kite Festival is one of the most visually stunning traditions of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, transforming the sky above the National Mall into a swirling kaleidoscope of color. Held annually on the grounds of the Washington Monument, the event invites thousands of participants to fly kites against the backdrop of D.C.’s iconic marble obelisk and the pale pink blooms of the cherry trees. Founded in 1967 by aviation pioneer Paul E. Garber, the festival has grown from a local competition into a world-class showcase featuring professional "kite ballet" demonstrations, intricate handmade designs, and high-stakes "Rokkaku" kite battles where flyers attempt to knock their opponents' crafts out of the air.

Beyond the competitive spirit, the festival serves as a joyful celebration of spring and international friendship. Families and hobbyists gather for free workshops to build their own kites. The event continues to draw massive crowds to the grassy slopes of the Mall, offering a rare moment where the digital world is set aside in favor of the simple, timeless art of catching the wind. Whether you are a master flyer or a curious spectator, the sight of hundreds of kites dancing in the Potomac breeze remains an essential D.C. experience.

ITS TIME FOR THE BIGGEST ANIME CONVENTION OTAKON!

Otakon is back in the DC area! Otakon is an annual three-day anime convention held during July/August. From 1999 to 2016, it began it's roots at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland's Inner Harbor district; in 2017, it moved to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The convention focuses on East Asian popular culture (primarily animemanga, music, and cinema) and its fandom.

The name is a portmanteau derived from convention and the Japanese word otaku.  Typical Otakon programming includes anime and live action East Asian films shown on big screens in multiple video rooms. Fan-produced content including fan-parodies and anime music videos (AMVs) are also shown.  Once of our favorites are the cosplay artists who walk around Otakon wearing creative costumes created by themselves or other artists.

Otakon is run by the Pennsylvania-based non-profit organization Otakorp, Inc. whose primary purpose "is to promote the appreciation of Asian culture, primarily through its media and entertainment".
